In Oriental, Granados manages to capture an evocative and melancholic atmosphere, using sinuous melodies and enveloping harmonies that suggest a subtle orientalist influence. Through the use of modal scales, ornate melodic turns and a slow rhythm, the piece conveys an introspective and exotic air, moving away from the conventional harmonic structures of European music. Such evocations, common in late 19th-century music, reflect the fascination with the oriental in the musical aesthetics of the time.

Originally composed for piano, Oriental has been arranged and transcribed for various ensembles. On this occasion, it is presented in a version for euphonium and piano, arranged and revised by Raúl Sabiote. This adaptation has been included in Reminiscencias (2025), Sabiote’s latest album.
