Raúl Sabiote Sánchez demonstrates complete mastery of his instrument in every respect; moreover, his performance is distinguished by a refined sound imagination and a personal, distinctive expression.
A score (Euphonium Concerto – Martin Ellerby) with cinematic overtones, in which the euphonium —an instrument rarely heard in today’s orchestra— evolves from subtle beginnings to a brilliant climax, alternating between lyrical and virtuosic contrasts. With its smooth yet incisive sound, Sabiote displayed commitment, refinement, and taste in his interpretation.
Raúl Sabiote made history in the Brass Category of the Juventudes Musicales de España (JME) Competition, held on October 6–8 at the Auditorio of the Conservatorio Profesional de Música “Victoria de los Ángeles,” by becoming the first euphonium player ever to win First Prize in this competition.
D’Gata Brass Week is, ultimately, an example of how emigrant talent can return home to nurture culture, inspire new generations, and energize the musical landscape with commitment and excellence.
